The Substance Abuse Prevention Education Program of Catholic Charities of Columbia and Greene Counties has been awarded the Healthy Living Grant funded by the American Medical Association to educate communities about the dangers of prescription drug abuse.   Prevention providers in Columbia and Greene Counties, along with the Columbia and Greene Counties Controlled Substance Awareness Taskforce are working to mobilize regional and local resources with the goal of reducing and preventing prescription drug abuse, especially among youth.

Columbia and Greene Counties implemented a Prescription Drug Awareness Week from April 7-11, 2014.
Schools in both counties were invited to participate in prevention activities during this week.  Schools may have sent an informative letter home to parents, made announcements about prescription drug abuse, included lessons on the subject, highlighted prescription drug awareness on school websites and encouraged student participation in the prescription drug abuse awareness poster contest.

Children in grades K-12 are invited to enter the poster contest.  Entry forms and details may be obtained at your local school or click here.
